M5, styli straight, tungsten carbide shaft, diamond coated sphere, roundness 70nm
High precision styli are used in special measuring tasks, where low measuring uncertainties and stable results are needed. They are used for special applications and with high-end machines. High precision styli are delivered with a certificate. The sphere roundness has a big impact for form measurements without a rotary table. In this case each form deviation of the sphere influence the result of the measurement.
High precision styli from ZEISS are delivered with a quality certificate where the real dimensions are documented. Unlike conventional grade 3 qualities, these styli provide the reliability of measured and verified accuracy values
Tungsten carbide is the most common shaft material, it combines a very good stiffness with an acceptable thermal expansion. Only the weight can have a negative effect when using large styli. Tungsten carbide shafts represent a good combination in terms of weight, rigidity and thermal expansion.
Diamond coated styli are very robust and have almost no material deposits during measurement. Due to their very smooth surface, which is achieved by a special polishing process, diamond-coated spheres made by ZEISS are also particularly suitable for measurements on highly sensitive materials such as mirror surfaces or glass bodies. In addition, the patented manufacturing process allows for high-precision spheres with a roundness of less than 70 nm.
